Edmark and balanced literacy
Edmark Reading Programme is a reading intervention programme designed for students who have difficulty with traditional phonics-based approaches. It emphasizes a highly repetitive, word recognition method with positive learning to build confidence as well as solid reading skills. This programme is often recommended for students with learning difficulties, including those with autism or have strong visual memory.
Balanced Literacy
A balanced literacy programme is an approach to teaching reading and writing that combines elements of both 'whole language' and phonics-based instruction. It aims to provide a well rounded literacy education by balancing explicit instruction with opportunities for students to engage with text on their own and develop a love of reading.
